In my July monthly round up of news from the nursery I talked about us just getting enough rain to sustain growth but did not wish for more as I saw it could be tempting fate! Well as we enter August all I can say is what a difference a month makes! Having had little rain since last November and with the introduction of a hosepipe ban to tell you that we had approaching 4 inches of rain in as many days at the start of July has more than made up for our water deficit. The problem that it causes when 2 months worth falls in 4 days is that we cannot get on the land to weed our crops. Up until this deluge all weeds that had managed to germinate had been controlled well but this deluge has brought on a huge flush of them that are all growing away with vigour. We still cannot get the tractors on the land and it could get quite bad if we do not get a dry spell within the next week or so. All I can say is watch this space but this is the 4th July on the trot that the weather has stopped us from doing the jobs we need to. As regards the crops well those that are harvesting now have done very well indeed and we do have adequate supplies. I hope many of you have noticed the extra line per week that we are managing to put into the bags and this is our way of saying Thank you for your support during this time of plenty. August is a very quite month customer wise as many take off for their well earned holidays. For us it is the start of a quieter period as we relax from the weekly sowing routine to concentrate on harvesting and weeding. All major planting is now done and all we can do now is wait for the return of the sun. .
